Hurricane Irma – Day 21 – Sept 27
The K1 Britannia Foundation volunteers and the Koninklijke Marine met at our meeting point and loaded up supplies. We decided to focus on the places that we felt needed assistance and head out to areas located off the main road.
We drove to Dutch Quarter, through Union Farm, followed by Garden of Eden. Our volunteers encountered many families who were very grateful for the water and food that we were handing out.
Although we saw that stores are slowly opening up in the area, we were told by a number of residents that any help was very much appreciated. “These have been hard times. God bless you!” – a mother of four repeated over and over. Her four daughters had a big grin on their face. We are not sure they were laughing due to the extra biscuits they had received or because one of the marines had complimented their smiles!
Later in the day, we received supplies donated to us by Tri-Sport and the World Food Programme. These supplies will be used for distribution in the future.
