Hurricane Irma – Day 5 – September 10th
All our volunteers cleaned and sanitized the center designated for all the food storage and supplies. We then did another run together with the Koninklijke Marechaussee to Le Grand Marche, which enabled us to then deliver food to the White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation as well as the St. Maarten Medical Center who we found had run out of food and water.
As promised, we revisited the New Start Foster Home, bringing with us Suzy and Dina from the Collective Prevention Services (Ministry of Health) to get them the medication that they needed. We were able to deliver fresh food and supplies for the children and spent some time playing and chatting with them.
We brought additional food to the main shelter, National Institute for Professional Advancement (NIPA) and then met with Community development about the possibility of opening additional shelters the next day. From there we checked in again with the fire department to make ourselves available and notify them that we had volunteers willing to assist if they still needed help with search and rescue.
One of our volunteers, Jana made birthday and spent it helping out so we ended the day by gathering together for some laughs, snacks, drinks and closed off the evening singing happy birthday!
