Hurricane Irma – Day 7 – September 12th
After being joined by 4 new volunteers, we received a call out on the radio for our The K1 Britannia Foundation Volunteer Team to head out and assist in the loading and distribution of bottled drinking water to the residents of Point Blanche.
We were then able to finish taking the last of the nonperishable goods and frozen meat from Le Grand Marche and stored them in a safe location in preparation for distribution. Our volunteers worked for the majority of the afternoon, sorting through supplies and loading them onto the trucks graciously provided by both the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard and the Koninklijke Marechaussee who have been tirelessly assisting our volunteers daily!
Just before ending the day, we delivered much-needed food to the St. Maarten Medical Center, Police Force of Sint Maarten – Korps Politie Sint Maarten, and a couple temporary shelters for people that had lost their homes and were in need of food.
We closed the day by participating in a short meeting to discuss the plans for the following days to aid in the government distribution programs and how our volunteers could assist. It was also discussed how to best coordinate volunteer efforts in the relief distribution programs.
