Hurricane Dorian – K1 DIRECT: Bahamas Relief Update 9
In Freeport, a new centralized warehouse has been identified as a priority to be set up to help streamline the distribution process by NEMA-Bahamas. The warehouse needed a lot of cleaning and work to set up, and damaged equipment, glass, old supplies and much more needed to be removed. The team spent their time cleaning and setting up the warehouse to make the space as functional as possible. K1 DIRECT did this alongside the Bahamian Military and the U.S. Coast Guard.
In Nassau, K1 DIRECT established contact with Parliamentarian Mark Humes, who leads the operations for shelters in Nassau. Iris was able to share her challenges, proposals, and requests for potential shelters. Iris and Mariangela, of Rapid Response, also spent some time to follow up on requests to use the buildings from Bahamas Resolve Limited, while continuing to coordinate with various NGOs on who would be able to carry on specific tasks under shelter management.
