Hurricane Irma – Week 8A (Oct 22 – 25)

Update:

To begin the week, K1 Britannia Foundation was recipients from two local events. Tri-Sport held a classic ride and the funds raised from ticket sales were donated to the foundation along with shipments from AUC students such as tarpaulins, toiletries etc. K1 representatives were present to help during the event by handing out water and raffle tickets and they had a great time. Thanks to Susy and the Tri-Sport team. Later in the day, K1 staff had a tent at the CC1 St. Maarten Benefit Concert where persons could sign up as a volunteer, donate items and funds and learn about the foundation. Part of the proceeds from the concert will be going to 4 local organizations, including K1.

The contractor, Jacob Bonds from Jacob A Bonds Quality Builders from California donated his time to come in and do assessments of each of the places that needed constructional help alongside K1 representatives. Assessments included seeing exactly what type of repairs needed to be done, what materials are needed, taking measurements and deciding on time frames. It was a very busy few days visiting over 20 organizations, such as the foster homes, daycares, community centers, afternoon school programs, Dr. J Crisis Center, Mental Health Foundation, and soup kitchens.

From our donated shipment from New York, we delivered much-needed bed sheets for an elderly man in Belvedere.

This week we focused our deliveries of high energy biscuits to the high schools and afternoon schools. We delivered 107 boxes of High Energy Biscuits donated by the World Food Programme to Milton Peters College, Academy Academic and PSVE, St. Maarten Vocational School and No Kidding With Our Kids Foundation for ASA (afternoon school).

We continued our weekly 100 hot meals deliveries and decided because it was our last week to focus on residents of Cay Bay who have surely been hit hard by the hurricane. Lunch was pasta and tuna or pasta and chicken and was given to mothers, children, elderly and anyone who needed a hot meal. We also gave out water to supplement the meal.

K1 donated two office tables to our partner organization Player Development SXM, an afternoon school catering to at-risk and underprivileged children to be used for homework, computer use etc. While at Player Development, Jacob, Randle and K1 members spent time reading and assisting the children.
Kat of Arena Base Cafe continued to support the foundation by donating thirty (30) delicious lunch meals to K1 for our volunteers.

Randle Martina of ATJ Photography donated his time to record footage of our activities and will continue to do so for the rest of the week.
