Hurricane Dorian – K1 DIRECT: Bahamas Relief Update 5

Update:

We reached our 5th day in the Bahamas, and most of our team in Nassau flew to Freeport to join the others there. The workload increased in Freeport, where K1 DIRECT continued to manage the distribution process, working alongside local volunteers, organizing supplies to be distributed to homes and shelters.

During the EOC meeting in Freeport, the focus remained largely on the fact that there will be a tropical storm headed towards the Bahamas, and six additional shelters needed to be opened. Consequently the team, with the help of volunteers from Team Rubicon UK cut, boxed and set up 200 tarps that were then being picked up to be taken to affected homes across the island, along with water.

In Nassau, Iris, Tanvi & Cherry stayed behind to support IOM – UN Migration with assessing buildings, compiling notes and meeting persons within the local community, and between international aid organizations to find solutions for immediate to long-term solutions for additional shelters and housing for evacuees.

We would like to thank Michelle Cove of Trans Island Airways, who organized a plane to fly over 5 of our team members to Freeport from Nassau!

We truly appreciate persons along the way, that help us make it possible to do what we do.
