K1 Prepares For Hurricane Season
K1 Britannia Disaster Relief Team (DIRECT) leaders attended the Community Resiliency Model training as part of their ongoing preparations for the upcoming hurricane season and continued work with those affected by Hurricane Irma.
The Community Resiliency Model, or CRM, is a biological model that focuses on physical symptoms of stress and skills to help individuals return to a mental state in which they can continue to function.
By completing the training, our project managers have gained knowledge on how to assist persons who have been traumatized to ground themselves- like a psychological first aid. Though the training was completed as a part of the Disaster Relief Program, our project managers are also exploring ways they can use these skills in our other programs, such as with the youth we work with and their caregivers.
At the end of June, The K1 Britannia Foundation will announce our long-term plans for disaster relief and preparedness both locally and in the region.
